GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 1 of the 2024 volleyball season. Ferris State senior outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Grand Valley State redshirt sophomore middle blocker Brianna Stawski was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Michigan Tech sophomore setter Tess Hayes captured GLIAC Setter of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Olivia Henneman-Dallape, Ferris State
Ferris State University senior standout Olivia Henneman-Dallape led the Bulldogs to a 3-0 mark to open the year at the BritKare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas. The Bulldog veteran notched a team-high 43 kills in the three wins, tallying a .364 attack percentage with only seven errors on 99 attempts. She also tallied a 45.5 points average. Henneman-Dallape had a match-high 23 kills in FSU's season-opening 3-2 road upset over nationally third-ranked host West Texas A&M and recorded a team-best 14 kills as Ferris State closed the event on Saturday with a 3-0 sweep over West Virginia State, which reached the NCAA Tourney last year. FSU was ranked 18th in the AVCA D2 Preseason National Poll.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brianna Stawski, Grand Valley State
Brianna Stawski earned her first career GLIAC Player of the Week honor, as she was awarded the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. The redshirt sophomore was named the Tournament MVP at the UIndy Invite, as she tallied 19 total blocks and 29 kills on a .354 hitting percentage. She had two solo blocks and three block assists against both Indianapolis and Maryville, then had nine block assists in the four set win over IUP. In two games this past weekend, she had over 10 kills, recording 12 against UIndy, then 10 versus Maryville.
SETTER OF THE WEEK: Tess Hayes, Michigan Tech
Sophomore Tess Hayes helped lead Michigan Tech to a 4-0 record at the Oredigger Classic. She averaged 10.87 assists per set and 1.93 digs per set while also tallying 12 aces and seven blocks. Hayes recorded 34 assists and three blocks in a win over No. 13 Regis, 51 assists and six digs against Gannon, 36 assists and four blocks versus No. 17 Colorado Mesa, and 42 assists and 12 digs against host Colorado Mines.
