GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 2 of the 2024 volleyball season. Ferris State senior outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, Grand Valley State sophomore middle hitter Paige Sanders was selected GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Ferris State senior setter Kaylee Maat earned GLIAC Setter of the Week recognition.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Olivia Henneman-Dallape, Ferris State
Ferris State University senior outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape ed the 12th-ranked Bulldogs to an impressive weekend as FSU won all four matches at the University of Alabama Huntsville Invitational to move to 7-0 on the year. She notched a team-leading 63 kills and hit .382 for the weekend overall while averaging 4.85 kills per set to go with 70 total points for a 5.38 average. Henneman-Dallape netted nine kills in the opening match versus Emmanuel (Ga.) before totaling 18 against Tusculum, 19 against Alabama Huntsville and 17 versus Harding. Ferris State won three of the four contests in a sweep by 3-0 scores with the match against unbeaten host Huntsville ending in four sets.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Paige Sanders, Grand Valley State
Paige Sanders earned her first GLIAC Player of the Week, as she was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor. Over the four games in the Hampton Inn and Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic, Sanders tallied 24 total blocks, 24 kills, and two service aces. In the opener against Northwood, she had 10 kills and eight blocks, one solo and seven assists. That was followed up with eight kills and seven block assists against Missouri Western. Finally, Sanders had a season-high nine blocks, two solo and seven assists, in the sweep of Bemidji State. GVSU has started the season 8-0 as they head into this week’s GLIAC opener.
SETTER OF THE WEEK: Kaylee Maat, Ferris State
Ferris State University senior setter Kaylee Maat led the 12th-ranked Bulldogs to an impressive weekend as FSU won all four matches at the University of Alabama Huntsville Invitational to move to 7-0 on the year. Maat tallied 140 assists in the weekend of work with only three set errors on 326 total attempts. She averaged 10.77 assists per set while adding 14 kills, six service aces and five total blocks for the Bulldogs. Maat had 27 assists or more in all four contests, including a weekend-high 45 in a 3-1 win over host Huntsville, which was unbeaten going into the match. The Bulldogs swept their other three encounters by 3-0 scores over Emmanuel (Ga.), Tusculum and Harding.
