GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 2 of the 2024 men's soccer season. St. Cloud State senior midfielder Philip Caputo was honored as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Saginaw Valley State sophomore defender Felix Tom selected GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Philip Caputo, St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State senior midfielder Philip Caputo had a historic evening in the Huskies 7-2 win over Upper Iowa last Friday. Caputo recorded a hat trick and dished out three assists for nine points, which was a single game program record. His three goals tied the single game goal record and he also set the program record for assists in a single game. For the week, Caputo led the conference in points and assists while finishing second in goals.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Felix Tom, Saginaw Valley State
Saginaw Valley State University men’s soccer sophomore defender Felix Tom earned his first GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Tom led the defensive core in a 3-2 victory over No. 11 Tiffin and a 4-1 victory over Northwood this weekend. Tiffin scored one of their goals in the final minutes of the game and Northwood’s lone goal was on a penalty kick. This is the second GLIAC Player of the Week award for SVSU men’s soccer after winning Defensive Player of the Week two weeks in a row.
