GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 6 of the 2024 volleyball season. Grand Valley State redshirt sophomore middle hitter Brianna Stawski earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition, Purdue Northwest junior libero Livia Thomsen was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Davenport junior setter Mehl Hansen claimed GLIAC Setter of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brianna Stawski, Grand Valley State
For the third time this season GVSU middle hitter Brianna Stawski has earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors. After winning the award twice for her defensive play, Stawski gets the honor this week as the Offensive Player of the Week. Over two games this past weekend, Stawski totaled 23 kills on a .377 hitting percentage, while adding 11 total blocks. She had 11 kills, swinging at a .370 clip, with eight total blocks in the win over Parkside. On Saturday, the redshirt sophomore tied a season-high with 12 kills on a .385 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks. This season, Stawski has recorded 111 kills, notching a .327 hitting percentage and has totaled 54 blocks for the 15-1 Lakers.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Livia Thomsen, Purdue Northwest
Junior libero Livia Thomsen led the Pride defensively with 34 digs over the weekend. She averaged 4.25 digs a set to go along with two aces and five assists. She currently leads the Pride in digs, top five in the GLIAC in digs per set, and just recently became the all-time digs leader for the Purdue Northwest Volleyball program.
SETTER OF THE WEEK: Mehl Hansen, Davenport
Mehl Hansen (Kalamazoo, Mich.) of the Davenport University women’s volleyball team has been named the week six GLIAC Setter of the Week. Hansen is the first Panther to be named GLIAC Setter of the Week since its inception at the start of the 2022 season. Hansen helped guide DU to a 2-1 record on the week, with wins over Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State, with their only loss coming to No. 4 Ferris State. The junior finished the three matches with a total of 103 assists, 34.3 assists per match and 9.4 assists per set. In the 3-2 win over LSSU on Friday (Oct. 11), Hansen registered 45 assists, her third time eclipsing 40 assists in a match this season. The setter also notched her third double-double of the year in the 3-0 victory over SVSU (Oct. 12), recording 35 assists and 10 digs.
