John Regenfuss joined the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) office in October 2021 as assistant commissioner for strategic communications.
During his tenure with the GLIAC, Regenfuss spearheaded the conference’s transition to SIDEARM Sports as its official website platform and played a pivotal role in coordinating the changeover following the GLIAC’s record-setting multimedia rights agreement with FloSports. He has also implemented an in-person football media day and led the execution of a neutral-site conference softball tournament. In addition, he is playing a key leadership role in working to establish women's flag football as a GLIAC sport.
Regenfuss is primarily responsible for the management of the conference website and social media accounts, postseason awards coordination, updating conference statistics and records and providing coverage of the league's championships. He also has direct sport oversight of GLIAC football (co) and softball but also has worked with the conference men's soccer, golf and indoor track & field programs and coaches.
Regenfuss is active at the Division II level, serving on the Regional Advisory Committees for women's soccer and softball and as the national coordinator for the D2CCA football awards. He is also part of the voting committee for the D2CCA Women's Basketball Player of the Week award and the NCBWA Midwest Region top 10 voting committee.
Regenfuss came to the GLIAC after serving as the associate director of athletic communications at Central Michigan University for nine years. Prior to that, he acted as assistant director of athletic communications at Penn State University from 2005-12. He worked for the Bloomington-Herald Times at the sports desk and covered Indiana University men's soccer and women's basketball as a sportswriter. He also served a two-year website and championships internship with the Big Ten Conference.
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Regenfuss received a bachelor of arts from Ripon College, where he was a four-year member of the football team. He then went on to obtain his master of arts in sport management from Ohio State University. At OSU, he completed graduate assistantships in athletic facilities and marketing.
He currently resides in mid-Michigan with his wife, Erin, and their daughters, Liv and Harper, and son, Reid.
