GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the 2019 women's soccer season. Grand Valley St. freshman Chantel Carranza earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Ferris State senior defender Tia VanSuilichem claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chantel Carranza - Grand Valley State
Chantel Carranza (St. Charles, Ill.) scored four goals as GVSU swept their trip to the Upper Peninsula last weekend. She scored a natural hat-trick, and four goals overall, in the Lakers’ 5-0 win over Northern Michigan Friday night. It was a career-high for the redshirt-freshman as well as her first career hat-trick. The four goals matched the most scored by a Laker this season and was one shy of the all-time single game record. Carranza is now third in the GLIAC with 10 goals this season and is the second straight Laker, and fourth overall, to earn 2019 GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
