GVSU's Cook, AU's Lee Claim GLIAC Women's Soccer Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after the fourth week of the 2019 women's soccer season. Grand Valley St. junior forward Ava Cook earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Ashland junior goalkeeper Hannah Lee claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ava Cook - Grand Valley St.

Grand Valley State junior forward Ava Cook (Battle Creek, Mich.) has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth week of the 2019 season. This is the second time this season Cook – and the third time a Laker - has garnered weekly honors from the conference. Cook scored five goals and provided an assist to help the Lakers go 2-0 on the week, outscoring their opponents a combined 11-0. Cook scored a career-high four goals in Tuesday’s win over Illinois-Springfield despite playing less than 60 minutes, scoring three second-half goals in a six-minute span. She then provided an assist on what would be the game-winner over Northwood Sunday before scoring minutes later to spark the 5-0 win over a GLIAC foe in non-conference action.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hannah Lee - Ashland

For the first time in 2019 and the third time in her Ashland University career, junior goalkeeper Hannah Lee has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. As announced by the GLIAC on Monday (Sept. 30) afternoon, Lee earned the honor after yielding just one goal each in road wins last week against Northwood on Friday (Sept. 27) and No. 11-ranked Ferris State on Sunday (Sept. 29). She made three saves against the Timberwolves, then stopped eight shots vs. the nationally-ranked Bulldogs. With a 0.71 goals-against average this season, Lee is ranked third among conference goalkeepers. She also is fourth in the league with an .842 save percentage. Lee also was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week in Weeks 2 and 3 last season. She is the second Eagle to earn a conference weekly award this fall, along with sophomore forward Faith Lewis (offensive) in Week 2.
