SVSU's Giambanco, NU's Everett Claim GLIAC Women's Soccer Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following last week's regular-season finale. Saginaw Valley State senior forward Valentina Giambanco earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Northwood goalkeeper Andrea Everett claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Valentina Giambanco, Saginaw Valley St. 

Senior forward Valentina Giambanco had a stellar performance in leading the Cardinals to a victory over No. 12 Ashland University on Friday in the team's regular season finale. Giambanco scored two goals in the 4-2 victory, helping SVSU secure the No. 2 seed in the 2019 GLIAC Tournament. Valentina leads Saginaw Valley with 12 points (4 G, 4 A) and the Cards take-on Ashland once more in Friday's GLIAC Tourney Semifinals after posting a 2-1 win over Parkside at home on Sunday in the quarterfinal round. 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrea Everett, Northwood

Andrea Everett turned in a remarkable performance in leading Northwood to a 1-0 road win at Ferris State. The sophomore goalkeeper made 16 saves in the shutout victory. The 16 saves is a career-high for Everett, who now has four shutouts this season. The Timberwolves finished the regular season with nine wins, the most for the program since 2002.
