GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following Week Eight of the 2018-19 indoor track and field season. Grand Valley State's Bobbie Goodwin and Hunter Weeks swept women's and men's field honors, while Northern Michigan's 4x4 relay received the women's track athlete of the week award. Northwood sprinter Rami Gharsalli was named the men's track athlete of the week.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Women's 4x4 Relay - Northern Michigan
The Northern Michigan women's 4x400 meter relay set a new school record by winning the race in a time of 3:44.77 at Saturday's Titan Challenge hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The team of junior Sydney McPeters (Sugarland, Texas), senior Lynsey Collins (Escanaba, Mich.), Paige Dutcher (Williamston, Mich.) and senior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) are now eighth in the NCAA with an NCAA Provisional time. The Wildcats placed fourth among 14 teams.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Bobbie Goodwin – Grand Valley State
Senior Bobbie Goodwin (South Haven, Mich.) won the women's weight throw with a NCAA provisional distance of 19.54 meters (64-1 ¼) at Friday's GVSU Tune-Up. She ranks second in the GLIAC and fifth nationally after posting her season-best throw.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Rami Gharsalli – Northwood
Senior sprinter Rami Gharsalli (Sousse, Tunisia) won the 60-meter hurdles in an improved NCAA provisional time of :07.96 at Friday's SVSU Tune-Up. He is ranked second in the GLIAC and sixth nationally in the event. He also placed third in the men's 60-meter dash in :07.03.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Hunter Weeks – Grand Valley State
Senior Hunter Weeks (Homer, Mich.) won the men's high jump at Friday's GVSU Tune-Up with a season-best NCAA provisional height of 2.11 meters (6-11). He ranks second in the GLIAC and eighth nationally. Weeks's previous best mark was 2.06 meters.
