GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced player of the week awards for Week Nine of the 2018-19 men's basketball season. Parkside senior forward Chavares Flanigan earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Davenport senior Dyllon Hudson-Emory was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chavares Flanigan - Parkside
Chavares Flanigan led the Rangers to two huge wins over the week, taking down No. 6 and previously unbeaten Ashland on Thursday and an overtime thriller over Wayne State on Saturday. He scored a career-high 25 points in Thursday's win over the Eagles. Flanigan teamed up with Brandon Trimble to score the final 19 points for the team down the stretch and made 10-of-14 Field-goal attempts for the game. He totaled 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting and five assists Saturday against WSU. He went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line over the two game span and had 4.0 assists per game and 5.0 steals per game while guarding each team's best wing player.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dyllon Hudson-Emory - Davenport
Dyllon Hudson-Emory was a key factor in a pair of wins that improved the Panthers to 6-2 in GLIAC play. He averaged 25.5 points and six rebounds while shooting 51.5 percent from the floor and 81 percent at the free throw line. On Saturday in a double OT win against Saginaw Valley State, he scored a team-high 28 points (20 in second half and OT) with nine rebounds and three assists. He has scored in double figures 13 times in 15 games this season, including five straight games. Hudson-Emory is currently seventh in GLIAC scoring averaging 16.7 points per game. He also averaged 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game for the weekend.
