BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following week four of the 2017 campaign. Walsh senior catcher Austin Szink earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Northwood junior Tyler Jandron captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Austin Szink, Walsh
Walsh senior catcher Austin Szink had another incredible week over spring break as he hit .476/.577/.857 with 10 hits, 10 RBI, two home runs, two doubles, and scored 10 runs in a week where the Cavs went 5-2. His best game against Notre Dame College where he went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, four RBI, and three runs scored. Szink added another home run against Lewis to cap the week. In total, he had multiple-hit games in four of the seven games and hit safely in six of the seven.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Tyler Jandron, Northwood
Northwood junior pitcher Tyler Jandron went 2-0 last week with a 1.20 ERA, leading Northwood to wins over Lewis and Ashland. In 15 innings of work, he struck out 17 batters while allowing 13 hits and three walks. He had eight strikeouts in seven innings of work while allowing one earned run in a 14-4 victory over Lewis. Jandron then had nine strikeouts in eight innings in a 10-6 win over Ashland. He currently leads the GLIAC in wins (four) while ranking third in ERA (1.73).
