GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of competition of the 2026 outdoor track & field season. Parkside senior Michael Hendrix (men's track), Wayne State graduate student Emily Gordon (women's track), Grand Valley State redshirt sophomore Isaac Tavo (men's field) and Grand Valley State redshirt senior Shelby Ulven (women's field) earned recognition for their standout performances.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Michael Hendrix, Parkside
Michael Hendrix has been named the GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week following his standout performance at the Rex Foster Twilight. Hendrix captured the 400-meter hurdles title with a time of 52.73, a mark that meets NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards and currently ranks 13th nationally this season.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Emily Gordon, Wayne State
Wayne State graduate student Emily Gordon has been selected GLIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career (she has twice been Indoor Track Athlete of the Week - once in 2025 and once in 2026). Gordon broke the WSU outdoor 800m record which had stood for seven years by running an NCAA Provisional time of 2:10.72 to take first place at the Oakland Golden Grizzlies Invite. The previous mark of 2:11.66 was set by Jackie Feist in 2019. Gordon's previous best for outdoor 800m was 2:12.45 set at the 2024 Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational. She also posted the fifth-fastest 400m dash time in program history, clocking in at 57.68 to finish third on Saturday.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Isaac Tavo, Grand Valley State
Isaac Tavo, a mid-year transfer from West Liberty, led men’s discus at this weekend’s Early Meet. The sophomore started off strong, throwing for a whopping 55.88m (183-4) to immediately take the lead. The season-best mark was just one inch shy of his personal-best throw (55.92m / 183-5) and ranks fourth across NCAA Division II.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Shelby Ulven, Grand Valley State
Shelby Ulven threw hammer this weekend. The redshirt senior threw for 58.27m (191-2) on her third throw of the day but led competition from the beginning with a 57.79m (189-7) mark. Through her six throws, she averaged 56.64m (185-10) per attempt to ultimately led her second-place teammate by more than one foot. Her season-best ranks her fourth in NCAA Division II.
