MTU's Tomashek and GVSU's Thompson recognized as GLIAC men's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 8 of the 2025-26 men's basketball season. Michigan Tech senior guard Marcus Tomashek was honored as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Grand Valley State redshirt junior forward Shamus Thompson was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Marcus Tomashek, Michigan Tech
For the second time in the 2025-26 season and the 10th in his career, Michigan Tech men’s basketball senior guard Marcus Tomashek has been named the GLIAC’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8, the league announced on Monday. Tomashek, the pride of Green Bay, Wisconsin, averaged 30 points, six rebounds and three assists, leading Michigan Tech to its second GLIAC weekend sweep with wins over No. 18 nationally-ranked Northern Michigan (84-75) on Thursday before a (81-72) victory against Ferris State on Saturday. For the weekend, the Huskies' All-American shot 40.6 percent from the field (13-32), 43.8 percent from trey (7-16) while going near perfect from the charity stripe, shooting 93.1 percent (27-29). He recorded his third 30-point outing with 35 points in the win over the rival Wildcats on Thursday before posting 25 points, a team-leading four assists, and surpassing 2,000 career points, now ranking fifth all-time for the Huskies, in Saturday’s win over the Bulldogs. Tomashek ranks second in the GLIAC in points (306) and points per game (20.4).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Shamus Thompson, Grand Valley State
Shamus Thompson has been named the GLIAC defensive player of the week for the first time this season. Thompson posted his first career double-double with 11 points and a career high 15 rebounds in the 75-52 win against Purdue Northwest. The redshirt junior brought down five offensive rebounds in the win over the Pride, while also blocking three shots and swiping one steal. He grabbed a game high seven rebounds with four offensive rebounds in the 81-72 win against Wayne State. Thompson also added one block and one steal in the win over the Warriors.
