Grand Valley State wins 2024-25 Division II LEARFIELD Directors' Cup

GLIAC -- For the 17th time in the history of the award, Grand Valley State has won the LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup for NCAA Division II.

Over the course of 2024-25, GVSU amassed 1,080.5 total points in 19 total sports, including three of the four sports that must be counted. The Lakers earned national titles in women’s basketball and women’s outdoor track & field. Due to scoring in the max number of 11 additional sports being counted, the following scores were omitted in the final total – football, wrestling, men’s golf, women’s lacrosse and women’s tennis.

Ferris State finished in 38th place with 422.5 points followed by Wayne State (39th, 417) and Saginaw Valley State (53rd, 362.5).

Northern Michigan placed 79th (257.5 points), on the strength of a 232.5-point winter season.

Davenport (115th, 188 points), Michigan Tech (136th, 139 points), Parkside (149th, 124 points), Lake Superior State (194th, 73 points) and Purdue Northwest (248th, 25 points) rounded out the GLIAC representation in the rankings.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

Overall, 15 sports are counted in the final DII standings, four of which must be women’s volleyball and basketball and men’s basketball and baseball. The next highest (11 max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.
