MTU's Tomashek and LSSU's Soper earn GLIAC men's basketball player of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the 12th week of the 2024-25 men's basketball season. Michigan Tech junior guard Marcus Tomashek named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week while Lake Superior State Hunter Roper senior forward/guard received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Marcus Tomashek, Michigan Tech
For the fourth time this season, junior guard Marcus Tomashek has earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday. Tomashek leads the league with four Offensive Player of the Week honors for the 2024-25 campaign. Hailing from Green Bay, Wisconsin, Tomashek led the Huskies in scoring in the fourth GLIAC weekend sweep of the season for Michigan Tech, who earned wins over Davenport (77-69) and Grand Valley State (81-66) to remain undefeated at the SDC Gymnasium this season. The Huskies earned the series sweep over the Lakers for the first time since the 2017-18 season. He scored a game-high 28 points against Grand Valley State and recorded his 12th career 30-point game with 32 points in the win over Davenport on Thursday. For the weekend, he averaged 28 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 21-for-25 from the free-throw line.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hunter Soper, Lake Superior State
Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) has been selected as the GLIAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Soper helped lead the Lakers to a pair of wins on the week with strong play on the defensive end of the floor, totaling 16 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks over both games. First on Thursday, he contributed a pair of steals and a block to help his team defeat the No. 15 Ferris State Bulldogs in a battle between teams that were tied at the top of the league standings, and then on Saturday, he added two blocks and a steal during LSSU’s 85-66 victory over Roosevelt.
