GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the 14th week of the 2024-25 women's basketball season. Parkside sophomore Cassidy Arni was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore Marie Outlay was honored as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cassidy Arni, Parkside
After a weekend sweep that included a stunning victory over No. 1 Grand Valley State, Cassidy Arni garnered GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. This marks the third time the sophomore has earned this honor, and the second time this season. Arni began the weekend with her 18th game of the season netting double figures. In fact, Arni played a huge factor in Parkside’s 87-57 victory against Davenport, scoring 16 points. Arni knocked down a triple and dished out three assists in the process. And in the biggest season of the thus far, Cassidy Arni shined the brightest. Arni was shot out of a cannon, dropping 18 points in the first half against No. 1 Grand Valley State. Arni continued her dominance in the second half and seemed unstoppable, finishing with a game-high 26 points. She was prolific from the field, shooting 11-of-15 and three-of-five from beyond the arc. This marks a new career-high in conference games for Arni. She also capped the game with an incredible block that sent De Simone Arena into a frenzy, securing the victory over the top ranked team in the nation.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Marie Outlay, Roosevelt
Marie Outlay earned her first career GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week award this week after showcasing her defensive prowess to lead Roosevelt to two wins. In a win over Purdue Northwest, Marie had five steals and two blocks to help the Lakers pull away from the Pride in the second half. She then swarmed Saginaw Valley State on Saturday for eight steals and a rejection while limiting the conference's leading scorer to just 7 points in the game. Marie also was a beast on the glass, averaging nine per game including 12 in the win over the Cardinals.
