WSU's Thompson and SVSU's Meredith named GLIAC women's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 2 of the 2025-26 women's basketball season. Wayne State senior forward Taylor Thompson was honored as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Saginaw Valley State senior guard Lydia Meredith earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Taylor Thompson, Wayne State
Wayne State University senior forward Taylor Thompson (Grand Blanc, Mich.) has been selected GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after notching a career-high 33 points (13-of-22 FG, 3-of-5 3PT, 4-of-5 FT) in the 79-59 win over Hillsdale College on Nov. 19. Thompson totaled 21 points in the first half as the Warriors led 41-22 at the break.  She contributed seven rebounds and four assists in the victory.  On the defensive side of the court, the pre-season all-conference selection tallied five steals and one block vs. the Chargers. This marks her fourth consecutive game in double figures, and the 33rd time in her collegiate career she reached double digits.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lydia Meredith, Saginaw Valley State
Saginaw Valley State senior guard Lydia Meredith scored 20 points and hauled in 12 rebounds for a double-double. The senior guard's energy on the court led to three assists, three steals, and a block as well. She shot 6-11 from the field and 1-2 from the three while knocking down seven of her eight free throw attempts. This is Meredith’s fourth GLIAC Player of the Week honor of her career and the first for SVSU women’s basketball this year.
