PNW's Cole and WSU's Ferguson selected as GLIAC women's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 1 of the 2025-26 women's basketball season. Purdue Northwest senior forward Alyssa Cole was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Wayne State junior guard McKenna Ferguson received GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition. 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alyssa Cole, Purdue Northwest
Purdue Northwest women’s basketball senior forward Alyssa Cole has been honored with GLIAC’s first Offensive Player of the Week honor for the 2025-26 season. Cole helped lead the Pride offensively to open the season at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover and propel them to a 1-1 start. She ended the weekend averaging 18.0 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and finished with a phenomenal .632 shooting percentage. Cole also finished going 8-of-10 from the free-throw line and .444 from three-point range to round out her tremendous weekend of play.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: McKenna Ferguson, Wayne State
Wayne State junior guard McKenna Ferguson was instrumental in the Warriors road split last week as WSU posted a victory at #6-Ashland after falling at Malone the day prior. Ferguson totaled six rebounds, 10 steals and one blocked shot in 61 minutes of action, while also contributing offensively with 33 points and three assists. She currently leads the nation in total steals (18), while ranking second in the GLIAC in steals per game (4.5).  At the other end of the court, Ferguson has a GLIAC-best 18.8 points per game average ranking third in both field goals made (26) and triples made (11), and fifth in free throws made (12).  She also has the top three-point percentage (.786 / 11-of-14) in the GLIAC, which is sixth nationally.
