2025-26 Saginaw Valley State Women's Basketball Season Preview

The Saginaw Valley State University women’s basketball team’s Megan McCalla (Chelsea, Mich. / Chelsea HS) was named to the Preseason All-GLIAC Second Team on Tuesday.  McCalla returns after leading the GLIAC in scoring last season, earning All-GLIAC First Team and D2CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team honors. She totaled 482 points across 29 games, averaging 16.6 per contest while shooting 45.8% from the field.

Senior guard Lydia Meredith (Portland, Mich. / Portland St. Patrick HS) also earned All-GLIAC recognition, making the Defensive Team after ranking third in the league in steals (2.6 per game). She led SVSU in assists (3.3 per game) while averaging 7.7 points and 4.9 rebounds, and she improved her three-point shooting from 12.5% to 33.3%.

The Cardinals welcome six new players — three transfers and three freshmen. Bella Paradowski (Melbourne, Australia / Texas A&M–Kingsville) joins as a senior, while Lauren Borsenik (Hemlock, Mich. / Concordia University) and Laynie Meredith (Portland, Mich. / Davenport University) arrive as sophomores. Laynie reunites with her sister Lydia for her final season and Borsenik goes from playing with Emily McCalla to her younger sister Megan. Freshmen Kaitlyn Geurink (Hamilton, Mich. / Hamilton HS), Chloe Kilbride (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg HS), and Kacie Bush (Columbia, Tenn. / Morristown HS) round out the roster.

SVSU travels to Toledo for an exhibition game on Wednesday, Oct. 29. The Cardinals and Rockets tip off at 7:00 PM. Saginaw Valley hosts Madonna on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 PM before they open the season at home against rival Northwood on Friday, Nov. 14, at 5:00 p.m. The Cardinals will travel to Hawaii in late November and host their first GLIAC contest on New Year’s Day versus Wayne State at James E. O’Neill Jr. Arena.
