A new chapter begins in Hammond as the Purdue Northwest men’s basketball team prepares to tip off the 2025-26 season under the direction of first-year head coach Jordan Ashton. With a completely retooled roster and a revitalized culture, excitement is building around a Pride program eager to redefine its identity and make its mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Ashton, known for his energy, player development, and winning pedigree, takes the helm after successful coaching stops that emphasized pace, discipline, and defensive toughness. His vision for the Pride centers on competing with intensity on every possession and building a program rooted in accountability and unity.
Only one player returns from last year’s roster, senior forward Trevon Stoutermire, who brings valuable leadership and familiarity to a squad filled with new faces. At 6-8, Stoutermire provides length, athleticism, and experience inside, giving the Pride a versatile option in the frontcourt who can score, rebound, and defend multiple positions.
The new-look roster features a mix of transfers, junior college standouts, and freshmen ready to compete. Senior guard Davontae Hall, a transfer from NCAA Division I UMKC, brings proven playmaking and quickness to the backcourt. His ability to control tempo and create opportunities will be key for the Pride’s offense. Junior guard Ahlante Askew and graduate wing Kevin Taylor both join from William Woods University, reuniting with Ashton and providing an instant connection to his system. Taylor, a strong and versatile scorer, is expected to be one of the team’s primary offensive weapons.
Junior guard Zach Hayslett and junior forward Pat Robinson, both from Waubonsee Community College, add athleticism and physicality, while junior guard Kwat Abdelkarim (Northern State) brings perimeter shooting and defensive tenacity. Senior forward Andres Arellano Jr., a transfer from Francis Marion, offers toughness and scoring versatility in the paint.
The Pride will also look to their newcomers to make an immediate impact. Freshmen Derrick Butler, Jackson Stoneburner, Garrett Clark, Blake Daugherty, and Jadyn Murray headline a young group that will grow under Ashton’s guidance. Sophomore center Drew King and sophomore guard Aaiden Ashton, another William Woods transfer, add size and familiarity to the rotation. Senior forward Kyle Ross, a local standout, rounds out a roster that blends experience with youthful energy.
Purdue Northwest opens the 2025-26 season with a challenging nonconference slate designed to test the team’s toughness before diving into the rigors of GLIAC play. While expectations outside the program may be tempered, inside the locker room the belief is strong that this new era will usher in a higher standard of competitiveness and pride.
There’s a new energy in Hammond and one built on hard work, unity, and a shared vision. With Coach Ashton leading the way and a hungry group ready to make its mark, the future looks bright for Purdue Northwest men’s basketball.
