SVSU's McCalla and GVSU's Bisballe receive GLIAC women's basketball player of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the 11th week of the 2024-25 women's basketball season. Saginaw Valley State sophomore forward Megan McCalla was recognized as GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Grand Valley State freshman forward MacKenzie Bisballe was honored as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Megan McCalla, Saginaw Valley State
Saginaw Valley State University women’s basketball sophomore forward Megan McCalla was named Offensive Player of the Week by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). McCalla led the Cardinals offensively with 43 points shooting 20-35 from the floor. She added 11 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and two blocks as well as SVSU fell to Wayne State 71-67 and defeated Roosevelt 80-64. McCalla averages 17.8 points per game and is the top-scorer in the GLIAC. This is McCalla’s first GLIAC Player of the Week award in her career and SVSU’s first Offensive Player of the Week award of the 2024-25 season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: MacKenzie Bisballe, Grand Valley State
For the first time in her career, freshman MacKenzie Bisballe has earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Over three games for GVSU, Bisballe scored 36 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, blocked nine shots, dished out six assists, and had three steals. She shot 14-19 from the floor and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. On Monday, Bisballe blocked a career-high five shots, scored nine points, pulled down three rebounds, and had three assists in the victory at Roosevelt. She followed that up with another nine points, seven rebounds, two steals, and a block, helping the Lakers defeat Parkside. On Saturday, Bisballe tallied 18 points, had four boards, three blocks, and a steal in the 106-47 win over Purdue Northwest. This season, Bisballe leads the GLIAC with 28 blocks, averaging 1.3 per game.
