FSU's Riley and GVSU's Vanstee named GLIAC women's basketball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the 10th week of the 2024-25 women's basketball season. Ferris State junior Mia Riley was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Grand Valley State redshirt junior guard Paige Vanstee was selected for GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mia Riley, Ferris State
Ferris State University junior Mia Riley had an outstanding weekend for the Bulldogs as FSU earned a league road sweep with victories at Parkside and Purdue Northwest. Riley poured in a team-high 40 points on the weekend to go with 15 rebounds, seven assists and three steals while shooting an impressive 67% from the floor and 55% from behind the three-point line. She notched a team-leading 21 points with a squad-best eight rebounds, two steals and an assist in Thursday’s 75-69 win over the Rangers before coming back with 19 points, seven boards, six assists and a steal on Saturday in a dominating 95-70 win at Purdue Northwest when FSU was forced to play short-handed due to injuries. For the weekend, Riley averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as FSU improved to 13-4 overall and took over sole possession of second place in the league standings.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Paige Vanstee, Grand Valley State
For the first time in her career, GVSU redshirt junior Paige Vanstee was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year. In the Lakers’ 110-51 victory over Davenport on Thursday, Vanstee recorded her second consecutive double-double, posting 16 points and tying her career-high with 10 rebounds. She added a team-high four steals and also recorded a block. She helped hold the Panthers to just 34% shooting from the field and 28.6% from three, and played a key role in the Lakers forcing 30 turnovers and winning the rebounding battle 42-25.
