GLIAC -- Ferris State football will look to capture its third national title in four years on Saturday when it squares off with Valdosta State (13-0) in the 2024 NCAA Division II Championship game.
The contest, which is scheduled for a 2 p.m. ET kick off, will be played at McKinney ISD Stadium in McKinney, Texas and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
Ferris State has made a nation-leading 10 consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II playoffs and this year marks FSU’s fourth national championship game appearance in the last six seasons.
Over the last decade, the Bulldogs have compiled a 121-14 overall record and claimed two national titles, six conference championships, posted five unbeaten regular seasons, captured six regional titles and reached the national quarterfinals six times. Ferris State has also accumulated three Harlon Hill National Player of the Year trophies and won 23 postseason games.
The Bulldogs are facing Valdosta State in the title game for the third time since 2018. In 2018, FSU was edged by Valdosta, 49-47, then avenged that loss in 2021 by steamrolling the Blazers, 58-17.
Ferris State (13-1), the No. 2 seed, enters this year's title game battle-tested, after defeating No. 8 Central Oklahoma, No. 4 Harding and No. 11 Slippery Rock to advance to the finals. The Bulldogs, who are riding a 13-game winning streak overall, haven't scored fewer than 41 points in the playoffs.
The Bulldogs are led by junior quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, whose ascension to elite status this season has been nothing short of remarkable. Chambliss went from being listed as Ferris State's No. 2 signal caller at season's outset to finishing third in the voting for the Harlon Hill Trophy and earning second team All-America honors. He has developed into an offensive force, accounting for 23 total touchdowns and 3,689 total yards in 2024.
Valdosta State, the No. 1 seed, topped three unranked teams (AFCA poll) to reach the championship game -- Miles College (33-17), Virginia Union (49-14) and Minnesota State (35-21). The Blazers enter Saturday as the nation's lone undefeated Division II squad.
VSU is making its seventh trip to the NCAA National Championship game, which is tied for second all-time in Division II history.
The Blazers are led by AFCA National Coach of the Year Tremaine Jackson, quarterback Sammy Edwards, who finished fourth in the Harlon Hill voting, and first team All-America defensive back Larry Elder. Running back Alfonso Franklin starred in the Blazers' semifinal win, scoring five total touchdowns.
