GLIAC -- Second-ranked Ferris State and No. 5 Grand Valley State will be in action Saturday, hosting second round games of the 2024 NCAA Division II Championship.
Ferris State (11-1), the No. 1 seed in Super Region Three, had a bye for the first round and will be back on the gridiron for the first time since Nov. 16, when it captured the GLIAC title with a 24-9 victory over Davenport.
The Bulldogs will face No. 4-seed Central Oklahoma (11-1) at 12 p.m. at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids. FSU is making its nation-leading 10 consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Bronchos advanced by virtue of a 38-31 first-round home win over Ouachita Baptist.
Ferris State and Central Oklahoma are meeting for the first-time and the postseason clash will also mark FSU’s first matchup in program history against a team from the state of Oklahoma.
Grand Valley State (11-1), the No. 2 seed in Super Region Three, is coming off a decisive 24-7 first-round win over GLVC champion UIndy. The Lakers are making their 23rd NCAA DII playoff appearance all-time. GVSU is 40-19 in NCAA DII postseason action, including a mark of 26-4 in home playoff games.
GVSU will kick off against defending national champion Harding (11-1) at 1 p.m. at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale. The game is a rematch of last season's NCAA semifinal matchup, won by Harding, 7-6, in Arkansas.
Harding steamrolled Pittsburg State, 48-3, on the road last weekend to advance to the second round. The Bisons boast the nation's leading scoring offense (51.9 ppg) and scoring defense (8.2 ppg).
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
