GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2024-25 women's basketball season. Northern Michigan junior guard Jacy Weisbrod was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Wayne State junior forward Taylor Thompson earned GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jacy Weisbrod, Northern Michigan
Northern Michigan junior guard Jacy Weisbrod has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a pair of home wins to move to 4-0 on the season. NMU defeated Minnesota Crookston 85-69 on Friday and followed with a 80-51 win over Bemidji State. The La Crosse, Wisconsin native was tried and true for the Wildcats, pouring in 26 points against the Golden Eagles, shooting a lethal 10-16 (62.5%) from the field and 6-9 (66.7%) from beyond the arc, the most threes in a game amongst conference teams this season. She followed it up with 27 points on 11-20 (55.0%) shooting from the field and 4-11 (36.7%) from three in the victory over Bemidji. Her 26 and 27 points are the 2nd and 3rd best scoring performances in the GLIAC so far this season. Weisbrod is 3rd in the conference averaging 16.5 points per game while she paces all players from downtown with 13 triples.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Taylor Thompson, Wayne State
Wayne State junior forward Taylor Thompson grabbed eight defensive rebounds on her way to a game-high 15 boards in WSU's win over Northwood last Thursday. She also recorded one steal as the Warrior defense limited the Timberwolves to 33 percent shooting (21-of-63), and just seven second-chance points. Despite missing 46 shots (42 field goals and four free throws), Northwood had just 11 offensive rebounds.
