GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 7 of the 2024 football season. Ferris State junior quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week while Grand Valley State junior linebacker Anthony Cardamone was selected GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Lakers teammate redshirt freshman punter Evan Sundermann was recognized as GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Trinidad Chambliss, Ferris State
Ferris State University junior quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw a school-record tying six touchdown passes on Saturday as #4 FSU beat Michigan Tech decisively by a 51-13 score at Top Taggart Field. Chambliss went 18-of-30 passing for 383 yards and six scores while adding a game-high 90 rushing yards on 10 carries for a 9.0 average. His 473 yards of total offense represented the sixth-highest single game figure in school history and was among the top 15 performances all-time in GLIAC history. The junior signal caller helped the Bulldogs jump out to a 20-0 lead after the opening period and FSU generated 577 yards of total offense in the win behind his play. The victory was Ferris State’s 12th-straight over the Huskies dating back to the start of the Tony Annese era as FSU’s head coach in 2012 and the Bulldogs also improved to 23-0 under Annese versus Michigan’s Upper Peninsula schools.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Anthony Cardamone, Grand Valley State
Junior linebacker Anthony Cardamone was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office. Cardamone tallied a season-high 11 tackles (7 solo/4 assisted), 2.0 tackles for loss (-9) and a key QB sack in the fourth quarter on third down to force a punt in the #2 Lakers' 16-9 victory over #23 Saginaw Valley State in the Battle of the Valley's. Cardamone was a key performer that helped the Laker defense hold SVSU to five plays or less on eight drives and six plays or less on 10 drives. GVSU held the Cardinals 283 yards of total offense (145 passing/138 rushing) on 61 plays. Cardamone has 36 tackles, 3.0 QB sacks, 6.0 tackles for loss and five QB hurries.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Evan Sundermann, Grand Valley State
Redshirt freshman punter Evan Sundermann was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week it was announced the league office. Sundermann punted seven times for an average of 45.6 yards and dropped two at the Saginaw Valley State's 1-yard line and two more at the SVSU 20 in the #2 Lakers' 16-9 victory over the #23 Cardinals in the Battle of the Valley's. Saginaw Valley State's average starting field position following a Sunderman punt was their own 21-yard line. In addition, SVSU managed just three yards in punt returns on the day. His long punt on the day was 58 yards and went out of bounds at the Cardinal one- yard line
