GLIAC -- Grand Valley State's Hannah Becker and Isaac Harding have been selected as recipients of the 2021-22 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. The winners, awarded annually to one male and one female, were chosen from the male and female GLIAC Commissioner's Award honorees throughout the 2021-22 academic year, showcasing the top student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.

Hannah Becker of Grand Valley State cross country and track and field has been named the 2021-22 GLIAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The physical education major from Eau Claire, Wis. boasts a 3.97 cumulative GPA. Becker won the individual national championship in cross country (20:22.0 *PR) as the Lakers finished as national runners-up and finished first at the GLIAC Championships to lead the Lakers to the title with a perfect score, the first since 1994. She finished 14th nationally in the 3000m indoor and ninth in the 5000m at the outdoor championships. Becker earned the Dorris Brown Heritage Award, the national women’s athlete of the year for USTFCCCA while also earning All-America and All-GLIAC honors.

Isaac Harding of Grand Valley State cross country and track and field has been named the 2021-22 GLIAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Harding, a senior from Grand Rapids, Mich., carries a cumulative GPA of 3.61 as a physical therapy major while putting together an incredible year both on the course and the track. Harding earned the Doug Watts award, the national men’s athlete of the year for USTFCCCA while also earning first team All-America and All-GLIAC honors. Harding won the individual cross country national championship with a 10k personal record time of 29:25.3, finished second in the 3000m at the indoor championships and fourth in the 10,000m at the outdoor championships. Harding led the Lakers to an unprecedented straight sweep of the team national championships in the 2021 outdoor season, 2021 cross country season, and 2021-22 indoor season and holds the GVSU records for the indoor 3000m (7:53.77) and mile (4:03) while holding second place in outdoor 5000m (13:43.97) and 10,000m (29:06.57).
