WILDER, Ky. – Brittany Casey’s
first-half goal sent Quincy University to victory over Saginaw
Valley State in the first round of the NCAA Division II
women’s soccer Tournament on Friday night.
After Amiee Ubriaco intercepted a pass in the Saginaw Valley end,
she dribbled into the 18-yard-box, centering to Casey for a shot
from eight yards out for her seventh goal of the season.
Toni Eye made one save while picking up her 12th shutout of the
season. Saginaw Valley State had a flurry of offense late in the
game, firing off three shots quickly inside the penalty area, but
the Quincy defense was up to the task and turned away the
onslaught.
Quincy improves to 15-5-1 on the season, while Saginaw Valley
ended its season at 14-3-3.
Quincy advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament to take
on host Northern Kentucky on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1
p.m.
