Michigan Tech's Hoyt Named Academic All-American

TOWSON, Md. -- Michigan Technological University women's basketball player junior Sam Hoyt was recently named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Arkansaw, Wis., native has a 3.93 cumulative grade point average in mathematics. She ranks in the top-10 in the GLIAC in six statistical categories: third in 3-pointers made per game (2.6), sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5), seventh in scoring (15.6 ppg) and assists (3.8), eighth in steals (1.9) and ninth in 3-point percentage (.385).

She is the ninth women’s basketball player to earn the award and the first since Lucy Dernovsek in 2010-11.
