GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following the eighth week of the 2018 season. Davenport sophomore utility Alexa Flores earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Grand Valley State junior Allison Lipovsky captured Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Alexa Flores, Davenport
Davenport sophomore utility Alexa Flores drove in 12 of Davenport's 27 runs in six games this week. She slugged 1.100 in her best week of the season. The sophomore batted .450 with three home runs, four doubles and scored seven times. Flores drove in all four runs against Ferris State in a game one 4-1 win. She then went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs in game two against the Bulldogs. Flores saved her best of last as she drove in five runs to tie a career-high in a 7-0 win in game two over Ashland.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Allison Lipovsky, Grand Valley State
Grand Valley State junior Allison Lipovsky went 3-0 last week with wins over Davenport, Saginaw Valley State, and Tiffin. Against the Panthers, the junior seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits, while striking out 11 and walking just one in the Lakers 1-0 win. Lipovsky then tossed another complete game against SVSU where she struck out 16 Cardinals without allowing a run. The Harrison, Mich. native then capped off her week with another complete game in a 1-0 victory over Tiffin. She tallied 12 strikeouts, two hits, and issued just two walks against the Dragons. On the week, Lipovsky went 3-0, allowed zero earned runs, tallied 39 strikeouts, and walked just five opposing batters.
