GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly softball awards following the second week of the 2018 campaign. Davenport junior third baseman Madison Jewell earned GLIAC Softball Player of the Week honors, while Davenport junior Mallory Teunissen captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Madison Jewell, Davenport
Davenport junior third baseman Madison Jewell is off to a remarkable start this season with a team-leading .429 batting average as the Panthers are 11-2 overall. The team just went 9-1 in their spring trip (only loss in extra innings) as Jewell batted .538 and slugged .923. She had a solo homer in 4-1 win over Point Park on Feb. 28. She also reached base in every game this week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Mallory Teunissen, Davenport
Davenport junior Mallory Teunissen has been the ace of the staff for the Panthers who are 11-2 overall and just completed their spring trip going 9-1 (one loss was extra innings). She had a 3-1 record in four appearances this week and threw 22.1 innings. Teunissen posted a 0.63 earned run average and walked one with 21 strikeouts. She also threw the fifth perfect game in school history which was a five-inning win over Mount Vernon Nazarene (12-0) with five strikeouts.
