GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the sixth weekend of the 2017 men's basketball season. Lake Superior State senior guard Akaemji Williams earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division honors for the second time this year, while Ashland redshirt senior forward Wendell Davis captured South Division accolades for the fourth time this season.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Akaemji Williams, Lake Superior State
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Wendell Davis, Ashland
Ashland redshirt senior forward Wendell Davis averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game to lead the Eagles to a pair of wins last week. He shot 52 percent (14-27) from the field and 44 percent (8-18) from behind the 3-point arc. Davis went for 14 points, six boards, six assists and two steals in a narrow 58-54 road win at Tiffin on Saturday. He then scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the second half of a 76-40 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. He also collected eight rebounds and dished out two assists. He was part of a defensive effort that allowed the fewest points by an Ashland opponent in 44 years and the fewest allowed in the shot clock era. Davis ranks second in the GLIAC in scoring, eighth in field goal percentage, third in 3-point accuracy, third in assists and seventh in rebounds. He now ranks fifth on AU's all-time scoring list with 1,588 career points.
