Five GLIAC Players Earn Daktronics Baseball All-Midwest Region First Team Accolades

ROLLA, Mo. – Five players from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) were named to the Daktronics Baseball All-Midwest Region First Team by the region’s sports information directors.

Northern Kentucky’s Jason Cisper and Kevin Jordan headline the 2010 Daktronics, Inc. Baseball All-Midwest Region First Team. The pair were selected as the Midwest Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

Cisper, a senior outfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio, was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year. He is currently hitting a GLVC best .451 this season and has an on-base percentage of .518. He leads the league in hits (96), runs scored (70), doubles (26), stolen bases (36) and is third in total bases with 135. He has driven in 45 runs, has a slugging percentage of .634 and drawn 26 walks.

Jordan, a relief pitcher for the Norse from Louisville, Ky., has made 33 appearances on the mound this season and was named the GLVC Pitcher of the Year. He’s compiled a record of 7-3 and a 2.09 earned run average in 94 and two-thirds innings pitched. Jordan has five saves and has struck out 78 batters while holding the opposition to a .204 batting average.
Their efforts have helped NKU compile a 41-15 record and a spot in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament this weekend at Southern Indiana.
Joining Cisper and Jordan on the first team are Grand Valley State’s Kyle Gendron (2B)Cody Grice (OF) and  Joe Jablonski (SP); Southern Indiana’s Dylan Mooney (C) and Trevor Leach (SP); Northern Kentucky’s Shannon McCormick (3B) and Dave Middendorf (SP);  Rockhurst’s Ryan Porter (1B),  Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) Sean Estand (SS), Tiffin’s Devin Rudolph (OF), Ashland’s Ben Minard (DH), Bellarmine’s Patrick Brady (UT) and Lewis’s Joe Scumaci (SP).
 
The second team is comprised of Wayne State’s (MI) Andrew Ciennik (2B), Ryan LaPensee (OF), Paul LaMantia (OF), Justin Mazur (SP), Brady Cooper (SP) and David White (RP); Northern Kentucky’s Brian Erie (C), Evan McDole (1B) and Pat Muth (2B); Ashland’s Jacob Petkac (3B), Josh Kirsten (UT) and Minard (SP); Indianapolis’s Kaleb Cunningham (SS) and Donovan Drake (SP); Missouri S&T’s Will Morrison (DH) and Brandon Cogan (2B); Southern Indiana’s Michael Huling (OF); Grand Valley State’s Andrew Trepel (SS); Drury’s Jason Hall (DH); Saginaw Valley State’s Kevin Dore (2B); and Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) Eric Panik (RP).
All 15 first-team All-Region selections will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America Consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on Friday, May 21. The complete Daktronics Midwest Region teams can be found below:
