Final 2022-23 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings

GLIAC -- For the 15th time in the history of the award, Grand Valley State has won the 2022-23 LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup for NCAA Division II.

GVSU amassed 936.75 total points in 17 sports. The Lakers tallied two runner-up finishes – women’s cross country and softball – along with two third-place finishes (men’s indoor track and field and women’s lacrosse).

Wayne State finished in 21st place with 498.5 points, highlighted by fifth-place national showings by the Warriors' men's and women's tennis teams in the spring.

Ferris State, which won its second-consecutive national championship in football in the fall, placed tied for 31st with 434.5 points. Saginaw Valley State gave the GLIAC four teams in the top 35 with 410.75 points followed by Northern Michigan (75th, 257.5 points), Michigan Tech (107th, 189 points), Parkside (131st, 149 points) and Davenport (137th, 139 points).

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

Overall, 15 sports are counted in the final DII standings, four of which must be women’s volleyball and basketball and men’s basketball and baseball. The next highest (11 max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.
